From Roman heat to London Rain

Air conditioning to heating.

Such is the vast difference a 1.5 hour plane flight brings. We started the day off slowly, making sure we had everything together for our train to the airport. We had an extra hour to spare so we took the metro over to see one last thing, the Circus Maxiumus.

This arena predates the coliseum by several hundred years, chariot racing being the main event here. 20120704-055310.jpgParts of the circus are currently being excavated, but the original track shape can clearly be perceived. 20120704-055331.jpgNot a whole lot to it, but it is overseen by the ruins of the imperial palace upon Palatine hill.20120704-055342.jpg20120704-055349.jpg

We took the train over to FCO, the Da Vinci airport and said goodbye to Rome as we boarded our British airlines plane back to London. 20120704-055014.jpgThe flight was short and soon we descend into London rain, a refreshing change of temperature and weather from the sweltering heat of the last few days. 20120704-054925.jpgIt’s good to be back in a place that values order and doing things right (more on that in tomorrow’s post)

We picked up some food at Marks & Spencer and traveled by shuttle bus to our hotel for the night. 20120704-054831.jpgThe Novatel is the hip younger brother of the hotel Sofatel, it’s not as cultured, but has a style all it’s own and costs about 135£ per night rather than 1100£. 20120704-054728.jpgWe enjoyed a swim
in the indoor pool with the rain coming down outside, then headed off to bed. 20120704-072816.jpg

Waking early with the cloudy sunrise at 5:00 we took a stroll around the area to get just a bit more of England’s charm before the long flight home.

What would England be without the double decker bus?

We look forward to seeing you all soon.

Oh how I love England! That looks like the same hotel we stayed in last time. Well you are coming home to a beautiful sunny day in the 70’s. Hope you aren’t too jet lagged. The kids are dying to see you. See you at the airport soon! Call me when you land.
